Strutturato seguendo puntualmente le tappe della natività e aggiungendo alcuni personaggi alla storia (uno spietato soldato con due cani feroci sulle tracce di Maria e Giuseppe) Gli eroi del Natale inserisce un punto di vista originale, quello di una strana compagine di animali (l’asino, l’amico colombo; poi una pecora, i cammelli dei Magi e così via) che si ritrova inconsapevolmente dentro il più grande avvenimento della Storia. Delicato ma non banale, fedele al racconto evangelico ma senza essere stucchevole o predicatorio, il film enfatizza la caccia che Erode scatena dopo aver ricevuto i Magi, con gli animali preoccupati di salvare la coppia inconsapevole, che si sta recando a Betlemme per il censimento. E, una volta tanto distaccandosi dalla tradizione disneyana di tante animazioni, gli animali fanno veramente gli animali: sebbene tra loro si intendano alla perfezione e cerchino di avvisare e aiutare, gli umani sentono solo ragli e belati, restando all’oscuro di quel che sta accadendo. L’asinello, cui Maria ha dato il nome di Boaz, è il personaggio centrale: il suo sogno di far parte del corteo regale si avvererà, ma non nel modo che aveva previsto. E questo sembra essere il cuore de Gli eroi del Natale: uomini o animali, grazie a quella nascita comprenderanno quel che nel profondo desideravano, ma che non immaginavano potesse succedere. Di questa bella sensibilità, condita anche da alcune situazioni divertenti che piaceranno ai più piccoli, bisogna dar merito al regista e sceneggiatore Tim Reckart, che nel 2012 entrò nella cinquina delle nomination all’Oscar per il miglior corto animato con il suo originalissimo Head Over Heels: la storia delicata di due sposi, negli anni diventati estranei, per poi faticosamente ricostruire una vita insieme. We first saw this at Christmas and my expectations were low going in, but it turned out to be great! We took our children, ages 6 and 8, and we all loved it. The story was fun, the characters were engaging. There were laughs and it remained true to the story and meaning of Christmas. I'm so glad it's on Netflix now! This movie somehow manages to take one of the most important stories from history, perhaps THE most important, and trivialize it through low-brow jokes, ridiculously distracting cameos and no-duh epiphanies. It has no further insights into the story of the birth of Christ, instead it mistakes gimmicks and laughless gags as a reason to create the movie. It doesn't even suffice as a kids movie, and in fact may be even worse at doing that then it is for adults.

If you just hear this song, or see this clip, it's a good song. If you see the movie and the buildup to Gaga's character finally stepping onto that stage to have this moment - this scene will completely blow you away. If you like this song, go see the movie. You will not be disappointed. Oh my, I have not seen Toni in ages. This is fantastic. I used to go to some of her live shows in Venice. After watching this movie, I felt like this movie really had a great way to tell the Christmas story which we have heard all of our lives. But, this was something totally out of the box into the animal's perspective of that "night divine.
I think kids will like it b/c of the comedy and the characters. The adults will like it b/c of the way it can introduce the story of Christ's birth to those who have never known about it.
The animation was flawless, the accuracy was on point, the jokes were kid-friendly (a little delayed) but overall, a fantastic balance of what the kids want out of the story, and the lesson that the parents want to the children to get!
Fantastic movie! Great for kids and parents alike.
